    Jedan novi postupak estimacije brzine vrtnje vektorski upravljanog asinkronog motora zasnovan na adaptivnom sustavu s referentnim modelom i neuronskim mrežama

    This paper proposes a new sensorless technique for induction motor drives based on a hybrid MRAS-neural technique, which improves a previously developed neural MRAS based sensorless method. In this paper the open-loop integration in the reference model is performed by an adaptive neural integrator, enhanced here by means of a speed-varying filter transfer function. The adaptive model is based on a more accurate discrete current model based on the modified Euler integration, with a resulting more stable behaviour in the field weakening region. The adaptive model is further trained on-line by a generalized least squares technique, the MCA EXIN + neuron, in which a parameterized learning algorithm is used. As a consequence, the speed estimation presents an improved convergence with higher accuracy and shorter settling time, because of the better transient behaviour of the neuron. A test bench has been set up to verify the methodology experimentally and the results prove its goodness at very low speeds (below 4 rad/s) and in zero-speed operation.U članku se predlaže novi postupak estimacije brzine vrtnje elektromotornog pogona s vektorski upravljanim asinkronim motorom. Postupak se zasniva na hibridnom adaptivnom sustavu s referentnim modelom (MRAS) i neuronskim mrežama. Takav postupak poboljšava prethodno razvijeni estimacijski postupak također zasnovan na »neuronskom MRAS-u«. U radu je realizirana integracija u otvorenoj petlji u referentnom modelu pomoću adaptivnog neuronskog integratora unaprijeđenog s filtrom čija prijenosna funkcija ovisi o brzini motora. Adaptivni je model zasnovan na točnijem diskretnom strujnom modelu motora dobivenom modificiranom Eulerovom integracijom, što rezultira stabilnijim vladanju pogona u režimu slabljenja polja. Adaptivni je model nadalje on-line obučavan korištenjem poopćene metode najmanjih kvadrata (»MCA EXIN+neuron« postupak) pri čemu se koristi parametrirani algoritam učenja. Zbog boljeg ponašanja neurona u dinamičkim stanjima poboljšava se konvergencija estimacije brzine s većom točnošću i manjim vremenom smirivanja. Za eksperimentalnu provjeru predložene metode izgrađena je laboratorijska maketa. Dobiveni rezultati potvrđuju valjanost metode na veoma niskim brzinama (ispod 4 rad/s) i u režimu nulte brzine

    Deep Learning algorithms for automatic COVID-19 detection on chest X-ray images

    Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was confirmed as a pandemic disease on February 11, 2020. The pandemic has already caused thousands of victims and infected several million people around the world. The aim of this work is to provide a Covid-19 infection screening tool. Currently, the most widely used clinical tool for detecting the presence of infection is the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), which is expensive, less sensitive and requires the resource of specialized medical personnel. The use of X-ray images represents one of the latest challenges for the rapid diagnosis of the Covid-19 infection. This work involves the use of advanced artificial intelligence techniques for diagnosis using algorithms for classification purposes. The goal is to provide an automatic infection detection method while maximizing detection accuracy. A public database was used which includes images of COVID-19 patients, patients with viral pneumonia, patients with pulmonary opacity, and healthy patients. The methodology used in this study is based on transfer learning of pre-trained networks to alleviate the complexity of calculation. In particular, three different types of convolutional neural networks, namely, InceptionV3, ResNet50 and Xception, and the Vision Transformer are implemented. Experimental results show that the Vision Transformer outperforms convolutional architectures with a test accuracy of 99.3% vs 85.58% for ResNet50 (best among CNNs). Moreover, it is able to correctly distinguish among four different classes of chest X-ray images, whereas similar works only stop at three categories at most. The high accuracy of this computer-assisted diagnostic tool can significantly improve the speed and accuracy of COVID-19 diagnosis

    Within seismology, geology, civil and structural engineering, deep learning (DL), especially via generative adversarial networks (GANs), represents an innovative, engaging, and advantageous way to generate reliable synthetic data that represent actual samples' characteristics, providing a handy data augmentation tool. Indeed, in many practical applications, obtaining a significant number of high-quality information is demanding. Data augmentation is generally based on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning data-driven models. The DL GAN-based data augmentation approach for generating synthetic seismic signals revolutionized the current data augmentation paradigm. This study delivers a critical state-of-art review, explaining recent research into AI-based GAN synthetic generation of ground motion signals or seismic events, and also with a comprehensive insight into seismic-related geophysical studies. This study may be relevant, especially for the earth and planetary science, geology and seismology, oil and gas exploration, and on the other hand for assessing the seismic response of buildings and infrastructures, seismic detection tasks, and general structural and civil engineering applications. Furthermore, highlighting the strengths and limitations of the current studies on adversarial learning applied to seismology may help to guide research efforts in the next future toward the most promising directions

    Topological Gradient-based Competitive Learning

    Topological learning is a wide research area aiming at uncovering the mutual spatial relationships between the elements of a set. Some of the most common and oldest approaches involve the use of unsupervised competitive neural networks. However, these methods are not based on gradient optimization which has been proven to provide striking results in feature extraction also in unsupervised learning. Unfortunately, by focusing mostly on algorithmic efficiency and accuracy, deep clustering techniques are composed of overly complex feature extractors, while using trivial algorithms in their top layer. The aim of this work is to present a novel comprehensive theory aspiring at bridging competitive learning with gradient-based learning, thus allowing the use of extremely powerful deep neural networks for feature extraction and projection combined with the remarkable flexibility and expressiveness of competitive learning. In this paper we fully demonstrate the theoretical equivalence of two novel gradient-based competitive layers. Preliminary experiments show how the dual approach, trained on the transpose of the input matrix i.e. X T , lead to faster convergence rate and higher training accuracy both in low and high-dimensional scenarios

    Forecasting short-term solar radiation for photovoltaic energy predictions

    In the world, energy demand continues to grow incessantly. At the same time, there is a growing need to reduce CO2 emissions, greenhouse effects and pollution in our cities. A viable solution consists in producing energy by exploiting renewable sources, such as solar energy. However, for the efficient use of this energy, accurate estimation methods are needed. Indeed, applications like Demand/Response require prediction tools to estimate the generation profiles of renewable energy sources. This paper presents an innovative methodology for short-term (e.g. 15 minutes) forecasting of Global Horizontal Solar Irradiance (GHI). The proposed methodology is based on a Non-linear Autoregressive neural network. This neural network has been trained and validated with a dataset consisting of solar radiation samples collected for four years by a real weather station. Then GHI forecast, the output of the neural network, is given as input to our Photovoltaic simulator to predict energy production in short-term time periods. Finally, experimental results for both GHI forecast and Photovoltaic energy prediction are presented and discussed

    Constrained least - squares parameter estimation for a double layer capacitor

    This paper presents an estimation of the parameters for a Double Layer Super Capacitor (DLC) that is modelled with a two-branch circuit. The estimation is achieved using a constrained minimization technique, which is developed off-line and uses a single constraint to write the matrix equation. The model is algebraically manipulated to obtain a matrix equation, and a signal processing system is developed to prepare the signals for the identification algorithms. The proposed method builds on the results obtained using an unconstrained ordinary least-squares (OLS) technique. The method is tested both in simulation and experimentally, using a specially-designed experimental rig. A current ramp input is used to generate the corresponding output voltage and its derivatives. The results obtained from the constrained off-line minimization algorithm are compared with those obtained using a traditional off-line estimation method. The discussion of the results shows that the proposed method outperforms the traditional estimation technique. In summary, this paper contributes to the field of DLC parameter estimation by introducing a new off-line constrained minimization technique. The results obtained from the simulations and experimental rig demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method with two of three parameters showing relative errors less than 5%
